Obamacare
(Politics,Government,Law,Health)
Finally, we're going to see whether the Supreme Court of the United States agrees that the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act (aka Obamacare) is unconstitutional. The state of Florida filed a lawsuit against the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, but other states joined, bring the total number of plaintiffs to 26 states. I could go on way too long telling you why Obamacare is wrong for our nation. I'll try to keep this relatively short.
Even though it hasn't been fully enacted yet, we're already feeling the early fallout from this disaster of a law. Insurance premiums have already risen, thanks to parts of the law already being enforced. For instance, insurance plans must now extend their dependent coverage to children up to the age of 26, well into adulthood. There have also been some preventive care measures that must now be fully covered by all plans. It's only going to get worse, people, as other parts of the law take effect.
While Obama promised Americans we'd be able to keep our current insurance, that's bogus. Employers will start dumping healthcare benefits and just pay the fine as that will be cheaper for them. Even if your employer doesn't, you may not be able to afford your part of the premium. All these 'wonderful' new benefits have to be paid for somehow, and that means higher premiums.
Look at Medicare. The government keeps cutting how much it reimburses healthcare providers, and more and more providers are opting out, refusing to see any new Medicare patients. That will end up happening to other doctors as well. To maintain enough profit margin, insurance companies will follow suit, cutting the amount they give to physicians and hospitals, causing them to drop that insurance carrier.
Medicaid rolls will explode with this new law and the government expands this coverage meant for the poor, allowing more middle class families to sign up. Like Medicare, though, the actual care patients receive will suffer. Fewer doctors will accept it, and rationing of care will have to take effect.
I've just scratched the surface of the problems with Obamacare. Now I hope the U.S. Supreme Court rightly finds this law is unconstitutional and we'll be free of this sword hanging over our economy.
